Terms of Service
Effective
These terms are an agreement between you and [Legal entity name] (“runsonwhat”, “we”, “us”) about your use of runsonwhat.com. By using the site or signing in, you agree to them. If you use runsonwhat for a company, you agree on its behalf and confirm you’re allowed to.
1. The service
runsonwhat shows which software tools companies appear to use. You can look up a domain, browse tools, and see companies that use a tool (“reverse search”). Without an account you see a limited number of companies per tool (currently 40); signing in shows the full lists. The service is currently free. We may add, change or remove features and limits, and we’ll try to give notice of changes that matter to you.
2. What the data is, and isn’t
Everything we show is inferred automatically from public signals: DNS records, certificate logs, public website code, public config files and subprocessor lists. See Data & removal for details. Inference can be wrong: a record can outlive the tool it points to, a script can be loaded without being used, and tools that leave no public trace won’t appear. Data can also be out of date between scans.
The data is provided “as is”, for general information. Don’t treat it as a statement by any company listed, and don’t rely on it alone for legal, financial, security or employment decisions. Where we show evidence, check it.
Product names and logos belong to their owners. Showing them doesn’t mean a vendor or company endorses runsonwhat or is affiliated with us.
3. Accounts
- You sign in with a Google account. You must be at least 16 and able to agree to these terms.
- An account is for one person. Don’t share it or create several accounts to get around limits.
- You’re responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else is using it.
- How we handle your account data is described in the Privacy Policy.
4. Acceptable use
You may use runsonwhat for your own research and for your organization’s internal business purposes, for example to prepare for a sales call or study a market, and quote small parts of what you find with a mention of runsonwhat. You may not:
- scrape, crawl or use automated means to access the service, or bulk-download or export company lists, except through tools we provide for that purpose;
- sell, license, redistribute or publish our data, or use it to build or improve a competing dataset or service;
- get around the company limit, sign-in, access keys, rate limits or any other access control, or try to reach data or systems you weren’t given;
- use lookups to attack, overload or probe systems you aren’t authorized to test, or to harass any company or person;
- use the service in breach of law, including privacy, anti-spam and computer-misuse laws;
- interfere with or disrupt the service, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows;
- misrepresent who you are or your connection with a company.
If you need data at scale or for a use not covered here, ask us at hello@runsonwhat.com.
5. Our content
The site, its design, the tool catalog and our compilation of company data belong to us or our licensors. These terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use them as described above, and nothing more. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.
6. Other services
Sign-in is provided by Google, and Google’s own terms apply to your Google account. The site links to company websites and other services we don’t control and aren’t responsible for.
7. Ending your use
You can stop using runsonwhat any time, and ask us to delete your account as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or close an account, or block access, if you break these terms, if we need to protect the service or other users, or if we stop offering the service. Where reasonable, we’ll tell you first. Sections 2, 5 and 8 to 11 continue to apply after your use ends.
8. No warranty
To the fullest extent the law allows, the service and all data are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or always available.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we won’t be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or business opportunities, arising from your use of the service or the data, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and 100 US dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and nothing affects rights you have as a consumer that can’t be waived.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We’ll change the effective date above, and for significant changes give notice on the site and email account holders at least 14 days before they take effect. If you keep using runsonwhat after that, the new terms apply. If you don’t agree, stop using the service and you can ask us to delete your account.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [Jurisdiction], and disputes go to the courts of [Jurisdiction]. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you can also bring claims in your local courts.
